Storage location on Android

Duets.fm allows users to download thousands of songs to their device. Please see this article for information about downloading songs.

If you have an Android device there is an additional option called 'Download location' that allows the user to pick the location where the songs are stored. This option is available when you pick the downloads option under 'Song types' from the 'Songs' tab.

The default option under 'Download location' is 'Internal storage'. With this option, the downloaded songs are stored in an app specific area that is not visible to the user.

If you change this location to 'Downloads' you would be able to access and play the songs directly. Open up 'Files' app on your phone/device and look under 'Download'. You will see a folder called duetsfm/songs. Under this folder, you would see the downloaded song under the sub-folder year/date/day on which that song was sung. Any song that you already downloaded to the internal storage would also be moved to the download folder.

For Android users that have an external SD card or USB flash drive, there is a third option. You can download all your songs to the external storage. You will see the songs under Android/data/com.quantumbytes.yamuapp/files/duetsfm/songs organized by year/month/day they were sung.

Few caveats on using an external storage to download songs:

  1. Your device should support using an external SD card. For example, Google pixel phones do not support them.
  2. You should format your SD card as explained here. If you have already set up your external storage before, ignore this step.
  3. The SD card (or USB flash drive) should be connected to your phone/device, before you start duets.fm app.
  4. You can only use one external storage device with this app. You cannot split the songs downloaded into multiple cards.
  5. If you have multiple SD cards attached tot he device, the app would give you the choice to pick one. It may not be immediately obvious which option corresponds to which device, but you can figure it out from the Files app.
